My Story

I started my accounting journey as a bookkeeper at a small firm in Waikoloa on the Big Island while finishing my college education. I graduated from the University of Hawaii at Hilo with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting in 2012. I used my acquired knowledge and skills to further my career and build upon my foundation. I aspired to be a Controller or Chief Financial Officer however, my goals and dreams took me down many different paths.

I wanted to get a feel for the corporate world and found myself in different roles at different companies. I gained experience in the hospitality industry and came to realize that customer service was a hidden skill I possessed. Though I enjoyed my newfound profession, I missed being able to spend time with my children and reminisced about a "9-5" job that allowed work life balance.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit our islands, I, as well as many in the hospitality industry found ourselves without jobs. I feared job security and considered transitioning back into an office position. The possibility of opening my own office became an option. After the birth of our fourth child and the inability to find childcare, I decided it was time to invest in becoming a small business owner.

Accounting is not a subject many people love. With my prior knowledge and skills, my goal was to marry hospitality and accounting to create a whole new experience for clients. I decided to name my business "Ho'okipa Financial Connections" because in Hawaiian, "ho'okipa" means treating others as you would like to be treated; it is the foundation of the "Aloha Spirit". I grew up spending a lot of time with my grandparents and helping out on our family ranch. I learned and experienced the old ways which I carry and pass on to my own children. With my humbled upbringing and customer service background, I made it my purpose to put the needs of my clients first by understanding and getting to know them and their business and going above and beyond their expectations. This is where the latter of the business name comes in "financial connections" - I strive to also educate clients, individuals and families on financial literacy so they can have a better understanding, change their perception of accounting and create a better future.

I currently reside in Pa'auilo with my family. I am a true local girl; I love the outdoors and not afraid to get "down and dirty". I live my life on a whim and always have a reason to go on an adventure. I enjoy playing volleyball and am Club Director of the Na Hoku Volleyball Club. When I'm not crunching numbers, you can find me near the ocean fishing with my family, at the gym or somewhere up mauka taking in all what nature has to offer.
